The Respect the Cage - Buckle Up traveling exhibit will highlight several displays that are designed for audience interaction. One such item is a seat belt buckling contest called "Buckle Up Battle."
This is a competition where friends can challenge each other to see who can buckle up their seat belt the fastest. It’s simple: two contestants begin at the same time and race to buckle their belt. The contestant who clicks their seat belt in first is the winner. A light atop the Buckle Up contraption will indicate who the winner is. The other person’s light will be locked out. A judge can tell who the winner is by whichever light comes on first. The winner will receive a Respect the Cage prize.
It takes less than two seconds to buckle up, and this game, developed and created by the Montana Department of Transportation, shows people how easy it is to perform a simple, yet potentially life-saving act.
This seat belt contraption was built by Ken Foran and his team at the Montana Department of Transportation Equipment Shop in Helena, along with help from the Montana Department of Transportation Communications Bureau and Sign Shop.
